John Sullivan, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with vast experience in cataract, reconstructive, cosmetic and plastic surgery. He holds a clinical professor faculty appointment in the ophthalmology department at University of California-San Francisco where he shares teaching responsibilities training ophthalmology residents and oculoplastic fellows.
Dr. Sullivan graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned his medical degree at Georgetown University. After completing his medical internship at Ohio State University, Dr. Sullivan served two years as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He specialized in ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco, completing a rigorous fellowship at St. John's Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study at Melbourne University in Australia and completed an additional year of fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery at UCSF.
Dr. Sullivan has authored more than two dozen publications in journals and textbooks and is the recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award. He also serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology.
A native of Santa Rosa, California, Dr. Sullivan has had a front row seat to the amazing evolution of beautiful San Jose as it has come to represent the heart of Silicon Valley. He joined Eye Medical Clinic in 1973 and has been privileged to see the practice grow and to serve generations of families in the area.
